Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B is a viral disease which affects your liver through two main lesions:
Fibrosis : lesion caused by the reaction of the liver to the attack of the hepatitis B virus. Liver fibrosis is usually compared to a scar that progresses in the liver.
Activity : inflammation of the liver caused by the virus. Activity is often compared to a burn.
Your diagnosis -
Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C is a viral disease which affects your liver through two main lesions:
Fibrosis : lesion caused by the reaction of the liver to the attack of the hepatitis C virus. Liver fibrosis is usually compared to a scar that progresses in the liver.
Activity : inflammation of the liver caused by the virus. Activity is often compared to a burn.

Coinfection
Patients infected with both HIV and hepatitis B or C virus have the peculiar tendency of developping their hepatitis more quickly. These hepatitises are viral diseases which affect your liver through two main lesions:
Fibrosis : lesion caused by the reaction of the liver to the attack of the hepatitis virus. Liver fibrosis is usually compared to a scar that progresses in the liver.
Activity : inflammation of the liver caused by the virus. Activity is often compared to a burn.
Your diagnosis -
Alcohol
The chronic consumption of alcohol can affect your liver through three main lesions:
Fibrosis : liver lesion related to the excessive or chronic consumption of alcohol. Liver fibrosis is usually compared to a scar that progresses in the liver.
Steatosis : accumulation of fat in the liver, following the transformation of alcohol into fat. Steatosis is commonly called fatty liver.
ASH : inflammation of the liver caused by alcohol. ASH is often compared to a burn.
Your diagnosis -
Cholesterol
Cholesterol or triglyceride anomalies can affect your liver through three main lesions:
Fibrosis : liver lesion related to cholesterol disorders. Liver fibrosis is usually compared to a scar that progresses in the liver.
Steatosis : ` accumulation of fat in the liver, provoked by anomalies of cholesterol. Steatosis is commonly called fatty liver.
Nash : inflammation of the liver associated with steatosis (fatty liver). Nash is the excessive reaction of the body to the accumulation of fat in the liver. Inflammation is often compared to a burn.
Your diagnosis -
Hypertension
Hypertension can affect your liver through three main lesions:
Fibrosis : liver lesion related to hypertension. Liver fibrosis is usually compared to a scar that progresses in the liver. Hypertension is often associated with cholesterol disorders and diabetes.
Steatosis : accumulation of fat in the liver, consequence of hypertension. Steatosis is commonly called fatty liver.
Nash : inflammation of the liver associated with steatosis (fatty liver). Nash is the excessive reaction of the body to the accumulation of fat in the liver. Inflammation is often compared to a burn.

Diabetes
Diabetes can affect your liver through three main lesions:
Fibrosis : liver lesion related to diabetes. Liver fibrosis is usually compared to a scar that progresses in the liver.
Steatosis : accumulation of fat in the liver, consequence of diabetes. Steatosis is commonly called fatty liver.
Nash : inflammation of the liver associated with steatosis (fatty liver). Nash is the excessive reaction of the body to the accumulation of fat in the liver. Inflammation is often compared to a burn.

Drug
The use of intravenous drugs is a major means of contamination by the hepatitis B and C viruses.

Biopsy is a medical procedure which consists of taking a liver sample using an adapted needle for analyzing it under the microscope.
FibroTest is a diagnostic tool based on a simple blood test.
Biopsy is an imperfect diagnostic tool and has a mean error of 30%.
It is not without risk or pain: 1 patient out of 3 complains of pain, 6 out of 1,000 have severe complications and regrettably, death occurs for 3 patients per 10,000 biopsies, which is unacceptable for a diagnosis.
FibroTest is a simple blood test which has the same relevance as a 25 mm biopsy.

The benefit/risk ratio of biopsy is not suitable for the diagnoses of the most common liver diseases. Biopsy remains useful as a second-line tool in cases where the FibroTest are not applicable or in rare liver diseases or complexes.
In conclusion, FibroTest has the same diagnostic value as a 25 mm biopsy, using a simple blood test, without pain and without risk, and can be easily repeated by the physician if necessary.
